Course details

Physics quantities. Measuring instruments and their characteristics. Experimental uncertainties and error propagation. Measurements of mechanical, thermal and thermodynamics quantities related to laboratory experiments. Statistical data analysis. Probability and frequency. Limit distributions. Chi- square test. Laboratory practice and lab reports.

Objectives
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Teaching is organized along three coordinated paths : classroom lessons, laboratory experiments (and tutoring), and written technical relations describing each performed experiment (these relations are corrected and graded). 
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: 
Students learn laboratory practice and methods. Evaluation of uncertanties over physical quantities based on basic statistical methods and error analysis shall be taught both in the classroom and in the laboratory.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
The main purpose of the course is transferring  physics laws and modelling in laboratory and setting up translations of mathematical modelling into laboratory testing. Along with that,  the checks of the physical law must be performed considering calculated uncertanties over the relevant parameters. 
MAKING JUDGEMENTS: 
The capability to asset the relevance and possible verification of physical models through experimental processes and relative data
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Student will learn to present the outcomes of their work, and in particular experimental data, in a technically sound and clear fashion, through quantitative organization of experimental data.
LEARNING SKILLS:
Comprehension of nature through physical laws and realizing how the "physics protocols" can be applied to other sciences. The goal is achieving tha capability to tame independently phenomena and processes that manifest themselves in all field of science.
