On September 27 and 28 from 6:30 pm to 11:00 pm, the Città dell’Altra Economia (CAE) – in the Testaccio district of Rome – will host events, workshops, activities for children, talks, meetings with researchers to bring the general public of all ages closer to the themes of science. Event organized thanks to the SCIENZAINSIEME - Science together NET project funded by the European Union through the HORIZON EUROPE framework program and coordinated for the University of Rome Tor Vergata by Prof. Amedeo Balbi (local PI of the project).

The European initiative European Researchers Night has for many years seen the consolidated participation in the Roman territory of the Department of Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata involving, on a completely voluntary basis, the entire community of the Department itself with a spirit of dedication to scientific dissemination.

This year, many other entities of the University will be representing the University, which, together with the Department of Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, will meet citizens together. To learn about them all, read the University press release dedicated to the European Researchers' Night 2024 NET. The Department of Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata will participate with a stand entitled "From quarks to quasars through nanostructures: let's explore together the world of elementary particles, new materials and astrophysics" together with the association Scienzimpresa. Among the activities proposed at the stand are:

  • Astrophysics "A journey through the cosmos from the Sun to the Universe: astrophysical research at Tor Vergata"
  • Materials Physics "Materials science and its applications"
  • Physics applied to machine learning, big data and quantum computers "New frontiers for computers"
  • Physics applied to cultural heritage "Physics and art"
  • Particle physics "Atomic and subatomic physics"
  • ScienzImpresa "Bernoulli's secrets"

In the area set up for "speed talks" for the Department of Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, you can instead meet on September 27 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm:

  • Prof. Francesco Berrilli, expert professor of solar physics and space weather, and talk about: how forecasting and mitigation of space weather will become essential for the survival of astronauts who will inhabit the Moon and Mars, or how the evolution of the Sun can make humanity take a certain path in order to guarantee its survival in the face of this inevitable change.
