Sun CubE OnE (SEE) is a micro satellite for multispectral synoptic observation of the Sun. The SEE mission has been proposed in the "Future missions for Cubesat" call of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and it has recently passed the technical evaluation phase and is now in the shortlist of mission proposals for which the commission will proceed to the adequacy assessment.
Sun CubE OnE is a 12U CubeSat mission in LEO whose main objective is the study of solar variability from UV to gamma. Since, as stated by astrophysicist John Harvey of the American National Solar Observatory, "The sun is the only astronomical object that critically matters to humankind", this mission will be of scientific interest not only in the astrophysics field but also in geophysics with different fields of application, from space weather to climatology.
The proposing team is composed by researchers from the Department of Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the INFN Section of Rome Tor Vergata and the School of Aerospace Engineering (Sapienza), while the industrial partners are: ARGOTEC, NEXT Ingegneria dei Sistemi and OPTEC.
Prof. Francesco Berrilli is the PI of the mission while Dr. Luca Giovannelli is the Project Manager.
