Course details

Basic principles of atomic theory: Valence Bond Theory and Molecular Orbital Theory. Homonuclear and heteronuclear simple biatomic and triatomic molecules: CO, NO, HF, H3, H3+, CH2, H2O and benzene. Ionic and metallic bond, some examples. Chemical reaction kinetics. Heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis. Some examples of fundamental industrial processes (synthesis of ammonia, the Monsanto acetic acid production, and Ziegler-Natta plolymerisation of olefins). Coordination chemistry: CFT and MO theory to the study of the strucure and properties of transition metals complexes. The inorganic chemistry of the principal elements of the main groups and hydrogen (B, C and carbides, Si, Sn, Pb, N, P and their hydrides).
