The Department of Physics has been ranked in the top positions in Italy in the recent evaluation of ANVUR and in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, also known as Shangai Ranking).

ANVUR: In the national research quality assessment ANVUR-VQR (2015-2019), the Department of Physics has been admitted to participate in the selection of the top Departments of Excellence 2022, with a score of 98.5 over 100. In detail, the score of the research quality assessment of the permanent staff indicates that the area FIS/02 (Theoretical Physics, Models and Mathematical Methods) is first nationally; the area 02/A (Physics of Fundamental Interactions) is fourth nationally and second among similar-sized departments, the area 02/C (Astronomy, Astrophysics, Earth and Planetary Physics) is fifth nationally and third among similar institutions. In the category of newly appointed staff in the period 2015-19, 93% of the research output in FIS/01 (Experimental Physics) has been evaluated as “excellent” or “excellent and extremely relevant”, the area FIS/05 (Astronomy and Astrophysics) is fourth nationally and third among similar institutions. The area 02/C is fourth among similar-sized universities.

Shangai Ranking of Academic Subjects (Physics): The University of Roma Tor Vergata is tied for third place in Italy for Physics, it is ranked in the band (51-75) for Physics Worldwide (top 15%) and Physics is tied for 1st place in the ranking of the academic subjects offered at the University of Roma Tor Vergata.
