This research area addresses the experimental investigation of nuclear and sub-nuclear phenomena and the elementary particles' fundamental interactions, including gravitational interactions. Competences in this area involve the functioning principles of the instrumentation used to detect and control those phenomena, the production and detection of radiation, and the treatment of experimental data. Competences include also the experimental research in the fields related to the particle accelerators, nuclear reactors and radiogenic sources, radioactivity and nuclear and sub-nuclear particles of cosmic origin and of astrophysical interest.
