Marco Giammei, PhD student at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and INFN associate, received an Honorable Mention for Best Presentation at the 2025 SIF Congress in the Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics section.
The title of his talk was:
Study of Coherent Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering with the NUCLEUS Experiment.
Further details are available on the official SIF channel.
Below is a brief description of the research:
NUCLEUS is an international project dedicated to the study of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEνNS), a process predicted by the Standard Model and only recently observed experimentally. This phenomenon, characterized by extremely low recoil energies, provides a unique window to investigate neutrino properties and search for signs of new physics.
The experiment employs ultra-sensitive cryogenic detectors installed at the Chooz nuclear power plant in France, exploiting the intense flux of antineutrinos produced by the reactor. Its goal is to precisely measure the CEνNS cross section, contributing to our understanding of weak interactions and the search for phenomena beyond the Standard Model.
