Prof. Francesco Tombesi, an associate at the Physics Department of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and member of the scientific team of the NASA Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) mission, which consists of a large telescope for astrophysical observations in X-ray docked on the international space station since 2017, it was awarded the "2022 Bruno Rossi Prize", the most important prize of the High-Energy Astrophysics Division of the American Astronomical Society.

The announcement of the award and the motivation:

The 2022 Bruno Rossi Prize has been awarded to Keith Gendreau, Zaven Arzoumanian and the NICER team "for development of the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) and the revolutionary insights it is providing about the extreme environments of neutron stars and black holes, including the first precise and reliable measurement of a pulsar's mass and radius from detailed modeling of its pulsed waveform."
