TITLE: What is the topology of the Universe? A path to detection

SPEAKER: Dr. Javier Carron Duque (Institute of Theoretical Physics, Madrid)

ABSTRACT: Cosmological observations such as the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) or the Large Scale Structure (LSS) are typically assumed to be statistically isotropic and homogeneous. However, a growing number of large-scale anomalies and dipoles in the literature suggest the need to revisit these assumptions. A physically well-motivated explanation that breaks these symmetries is the impact of the Universe's topology. Even in a flat Universe, its topology can introduce anisotropic correlations in the CMB and the LSS. In this talk, I will present recent and ongoing work of the COMPACT collaboration on the observational effects of the Universe's topology. I will discuss the specific, testable predictions for the CMB and LSS, focusing on how advancements in data analysis and future measurements (including CMB polarization) can reveal the global shape of the Universe.
